Office 365 Pro Plus for Students
Wismar University offers all enrolled students the opportunity to use Microsoft Office 365 ProPlus free of charge. This offer includes the latest versions of popular Microsoft Office applications, including:
- Microsoft Word
- Microsoft Excel
- Microsoft PowerPoint
- Microsoft Outlook
- Microsoft OneNote
- and much more.
With Office 365 ProPlus, students receive:
- The ability to install Office on up to 5 PCs or Macs, 5 tablets and 5 smartphones simultaneously.
- Access to OneDrive for Business with 100GB of cloud storage.
(Please note that Wismar University does not back up your data!) - Full offline functionality – the programmes can also be used without an internet connection.
Please note the following points before use:
- The right of use ends upon de-registration or expiry of the University of Wismar's Microsoft contract.
- After de-registration, you will automatically lose access to your OneDrive data, including all Office programmes. Please ensure that you have backed up your data beforehand.
Information on data protection
The use of Microsoft Office 365 ProPlus is voluntary. Students decide for themselves whether they wish to take advantage of this offer. The following data protection information must be observed:
- Data transfer to third countries: Some Microsoft Office 365 services may transfer personal data to countries outside the EU (e.g. the USA). The university has no direct influence on the way Microsoft processes data.
- Responsibility for content: When storing personal data in Microsoft services such as OneDrive or Teams, the provisions of the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) must be observed.
- Not recommended for business use: It is recommended that Microsoft 365 not be used for processing particularly sensitive data (e.g. health data, examination documents, personal research results) is not recommended.
- Transparency and consent: Before using the service for the first time, it is recommended that you familiarise yourself with Microsoft's privacy policy. The current privacy policy is available at https://privacy.microsoft.com/de-de/privacystatement.

Please note that there are some good and free alternatives to Microsoft Office. We would also like to point out that using MS Office 365 may result in your personal data being stored in a Microsoft cloud.
