Cooperative Doctorate
Universities of applied sciences such as Wismar University of Applied Sciences do not have their own right to award doctorates. Within the framework of a cooperative doctoral procedure, the doctoral degree is therefore always awarded by a university that is entitled to award doctorates. Initial supervision is carried out by a professor from a university entitled to award doctorates, while second or third supervision is carried out by a professor from Wismar University of Applied Sciences.
Supervision is by individual arrangement. The doctoral procedure is governed by the doctoral regulations of the respective faculty of the university entitled to award the doctorate. This also applies if a doctoral project is mainly carried out at Wismar University of Applied Sciences. A suitable supervisor at Wismar University of Applied Sciences is the professor with whom you have already worked, e.g. in the context of the Master's thesis.
It is recommended that you conclude a supervision agreement with the supervisor. The supervision agreement serves to ensure good communication between the doctoral student and the supervisor, but does not establish any claims under labour law.
