Admission requirements
The admission requirements vary depending on the nature of the qualification and course of study. You will find some guidance here:
Studienkolleg - Foundation Course
In order to secure a place on the Foundation Course, you should apply to the University of Wismar in the due and proper manner before the closing date for applications.
Documents to be submitted:
- Application for admission to embark upon a degree course
- Passport photograph
- Visa for study purposes (tourist visa will not suffice)
- “Abitur” certificate – Advanced Level Examinations as a university entrance qualification (certified copy or official copy)
- Translation of the “Abitur” certificate (certified by a sworn translator)
- Verification of a command of the German language, e.g. passing of the Admission Test in German or the Zentrale Oberstufenprüfung (ZOP) of the Goethe-Institut, which corresponds to level C2 of the Common European Framework (CEF) with 750-900 hours of lessons.
- Proof of academic achievement of your course of study, if applicable (certified copy)
- Translation of the proof of academic achievement of your course of study, if applicable (certified by a sworn translator)
Translations can be submitted in German or English. Original documents in English do not need to be translated. Certified copies of the originals and their translations should be fixed together in such a way so that it is clear they belong together.
Closing dates for applications:
- 30.06. of each year for the winter term
- 30.11. of each year for the summer term
Only applicants currently residing in the Federal Republic of Germany and who are in possession of a valid visa entitling them to stay in Germany, can also be admitted after the above-mentioned closing dates for applications.
International Class
Should you wish to take part in a programme of the University of Wismar as an ERASMUS or international exchange student, the International Office of your home university is your first port of call. There, you will obtain all information required in order to apply for an exchange programme. All of the necessary forms and documents are submitted to your own university as the responsible members of staff initially decide on nominating you for an exchange programme at the University of Wismar. Only then will your university send your documents to us.
Regardless of the subject of the degree course you wish to study with us, it is important to file your application in good time. The closing dates for applications for exchange programmes vary from university to university.
Therefore, please check the deadlines applicable at your university.
The individual lectures and seminars for which you wish to register can be determined on the same day of your arrival at our University. The same applies to the International Classes and the German Course.

Master's Degree Courses
Please send in:
- A completed application for admission to a degree course for applicants from abroad
- An up-to-date passport photograph
- A certified copy of the certificate verifying successful completion of the Bachelor’s degree course or German “Diplom“ in architecture, interior design, design or a related course of study, with a complete overview of the marks. Students must have gained an overall mark of at least 2.5.
- Verification of a sufficient command of the English language (e.g. TOEFL or IELTS)
- A letter of motivation
- A portfolio of previous work and papers
- A curriculum vitae
- A certified copy of the university entrance qualification

Please send in:
- A completed application for admission to a full-time, on-campus degree course
- Students must have gained an initial degree providing professional qualifications (Bachelor’s degree, German “Diplom“or comparable) from a university in Germany or abroad in economics or engineering-oriented subjects with at least 210 Credits. The overall mark can be improved if the applicant has gained relevant professional experience. The Board of Examiners shall decide on such matters and other exceptions in individual cases.
- If proof of the 210 credits cannot be furnished, application can be made to allow an additional, relevant period of practical working experience of 1 ½ years (in full-time employment) or 3 years (in part-time employment) to be counted towards these credits, whereby the maximum of 30 credits can be transferred.

- A current passport photograph
- Verification of a sufficient command of the German and English languages. The following qualifications are accepted for German: Zentrale Oberstufenprüfung (ZOP)of the Goethe Institut (certificate documenting very advanced language skills), Kleines or Großes Sprachdiplom of the Goethe Institut, Deutsche Sprachprüfung für den Hochschulzugang ausländischer Studienbewerber (DSH)(German language examination for admission to universities for foreign students), Test Deutsch als Fremdsprache (Test of German as a foreign language) or Feststellungsprüfung of the TestDaF Institut (assessment test) or the passed assessment test. It is possible to sit the DSH and the assessment test at the University of Wismar. For more details, please refer to the information contained under “Studienkolleg” (Foundation Course).
- A certified copy of the university entrance qualification

The admission requirements in accordance with Articles 17 to 19 of Landeshochschulgesetz Mecklenburg-Vorpommern (Regional University Act) must be fulfilled in order to be admitted to the course.
In addition, the admission requirements in accordance with the Indonesian Universities Act must be met.
Credits from periods of study, course achievements and examinations can be transferred. The Board of Examiners will decide on the possibility of the transfer of such credits on a case-to-case basis.
