The printed and electronic media in the library's collection are listed in our OPAC (Online Public Access Catalog) and can be searched there.

If your address, email or telephone number changes, you must inform the Library immediately.

The cloakroom lockers are located in the entrance area of the library. If you will be staying in the library for a longer period of time, please lock your jackets and bags in the lockers. You need a €1 coin to use the lock. If you do not have any coins, you can borrow a library chip from the main desk. (Please do not use your own plastic or metal chips!!) At the main counter, you can also borrow a basket to comfortably carry your papers and books.

All e-books and selected e-journals (= electronic books and journals) are linked to our OPAC system and are shown automatically when you research media.

The Information Centre on Construction ("Informationsvermittlungsstelle Bauwesen") provides information related to the topic of construction. You can find more information here.

Books that are not available in the library can be ordered via interlibrary loan.

University members have access to free WiFi throughout the entire library building. In the reading room, public computers are also available for research purposes.

In your library account, you can renew the loan period for media you have checked out and view any fees that you need to pay. To log in, enter the number of your library card (student / staff ID card). The standard password is the first 3 letters of your surname (not capitalised), and you should change it the first time you log in to your library account.

The student / staff ID card also serves as the library card. Non-university users receive a library card when they register at the library.

Library membership is free and must be renewed once a year.

There are different loan periods for the various areas:

  • Textbook collection ("Lehrbuchsammlung"): 4 weeks
  • Books from the open-stack library ("Freihandbibliothek"): 4 weeks
  • Journals from the open-stack-library: 4 weeks
  • Items from the library’s closed stacks ("Magazin"): 4 weeks
  • Books from the reading room ("Lesesaal"): only over the weekend
  • Journals from the reading room: cannot be borrowed
  • Information Centre on Construction ("Informationsvermittlungsstelle Bauwesen"): 4 weeks
  • Standards Office ("Normenstelle"): 4 Wochen
  • Media published until 1930: cannot be borrowed

Email notifications are sent out 3 days prior to the end of the loan period. You can renew the loan period for textbooks and books from the open stacks area up to 11 times using your library account. Under ‘number’, enter the number of your library card (student / staff ID card). The standard password is the first 3 letters of your surname (not capitalised), and you should change it the first time you log in to your library account. You can renew the media for a 12th time by speaking to a member of library staff.

If you have lost your student / staff ID card or your library card, please inform the library immediately. Your user account will be blocked to stop anyone from using your card without your permission. You can still borrow items by showing your national ID card / passport.

If you damage or lose an item, you will need to purchase an identical replacement item or pay the cost of the replacement item. In addition, the costs for incorporating the new item into the collection must be paid according to the list of fees.

To ensure that everyone can focus while they work, mobile phones must be set to silent in the library. Making telephone calls is not permitted anywhere in the building.

The media in the reading room ("Lesesaal") are part of the non-lending collection. The journals and loose-leaf collections found there cannot be borrowed. Books from the reading room can be borrowed over the weekend.

If media is returned too late, we charge overdue fees. After the loan period, it is possible to renew the media during a short grace period. If the grace period has run out, you will receive the first overdue reminder. If you do not fulfill the requirements stated in the overdue reminder, then you will receive another overdue reminder. The following fees will be charged per medium:

1st overdue reminder: € 1.50
2nd overdue reminder: € 3.00
3rd overdue reminder: € 5.00

With Campusprint, you can print both from your own devices and from the public user PCs / OPAC research computers in the library.

You can find all information and instructions about printing, copying and scanning here.

You’re looking for literature that’s not in the Wismar University Library? Feel free to send us any recommendations for acquisition. Please search first in OPAC to see whether we already own the title. If not, fill out the following online form or write an email to hochschulbibliothek@hs-wismar.de. You will then receive a message by email as to whether we can fulfill the purchase request.

To register for the Wismar University Library, students and staff members of UAS Wismar need their student or staff ID card (chip card) and their national ID card (international students: passport). The student / staff ID card also serves as the library card.

People who are not members of UAS Wismar can register in the library as a non-university user by presenting a valid national ID card.

The registration form must be completed. You can also fill out the registration form online and present it the first time you come to the library with your national ID card (and student / staff ID card).

It is free to reserve media from the library collection that are currently not available. You can make the reservation yourself using the OPAC or contact the library staff in person or by telephone.

As soon as the item is available, you will be informed by email. If someone places a reservation on an item you have borrowed, you cannot renew the loan period.

Lecturers have the possibility to set up a specialised collection of literature needed for a class in a separate spot in the reading room. The loan periods and lending conditions are agreed on between the lecturer and the library.

Here you can find an overview of the specialised collections currently available in the University Library.

The Standards Office is primarily responsible for managing and providing information related to standards. You can find more information here.

You have access to the university’s WiFi network everywhere in the library building. You can find instructions for logging in here.

The University Library offers work rooms for individual and group work that can be booked by speaking to the staff member at the desk in the reading room. You can find all information about the rooms here.
