A similar initiative took place back in 2023 to provide a home for the little feathered creatures that bring the campus to life with their chirping.
Once again, our colleague Cornelia Sawalich – an amateur ornithologist – took charge of all the organisational arrangements. Through Carsten Helm, ten nesting boxes, which had been made at Bützow Prison, were provided. Four more had been made by students as part of a woodworking workshop at our StartUpYard. There, all the nesting boxes were marked with the logo of our UAS.
The size and entrance holes of these ‘wooden houses’ appeal to different species of birds. Four nesting boxes are specifically designed for semi-cavity nesters, such as blackbirds, redstarts and white wagtails.
Two nesting boxes will be installed on the campus of the Rostock-Warnemünde branch and one at the Malchow site on the island of Poel.
