Under the title “Is it still allowed? – Freedom of expression between chocolate kisses, lèse-majesté and international law”, students on the Bachelor’s and Master’s programmes in Business Law explored a highly relevant topic during the summer semester of 2026.

The focus was on legal and social issues surrounding freedom of expression, self-censorship, the protection of political figures, anti-Semitism, international law, sanctions and gender-neutral language. It became clear that legal assessments often depend on the precise definition of terms and the balancing of different fundamental rights.

The Jura Show, chaired by Prof. Dr. jur. Jantina Nord, follows a problem-based learning approach. Students independently formulate research questions, develop solutions and present their findings in a way that is accessible to a non-specialist audience. The event combined academic analysis with creative forms of presentation, whilst also serving as the traditional end-of-year celebration for the Business Law programme.

Among the guests were Judge Dr Karen Bilda (Hamburg) and our alumna Sandra Wegener, who had already taken part in a previous Law Show whilst she was a student.

The Dean, Prof. Dr Kai Neumann, thanked the students for their tremendous commitment: “They have managed, in an entertaining way, to make legal work transparent and accessible, despite the highly complex nature of the subject.”
