All three outstanding final theses by our alumni are characterised by their strong regional and practical relevance. Congratulations!
The Level 1 Innovation Award (1,250 Euros) went to Marc Joseph Arpon M. Sc., who examined the potential of sustainably produced biofuels for reducing greenhouse gas emissions in the maritime industry in his master's thesis. His practical recommendations for shipping companies and cargo owners, as well as the high relevance for the maritime industry, convinced the jury.
The Level 2 prize (750 Euros) was awarded to Carolin Peters M. Sc. Her master's thesis on the thermal use of surface waters shows the potential of lakes and rivers for climate-friendly heat supply to buildings and industry. The thesis also forms the basis for her current doctoral project.
The Level 3 Innovation Award (500 Euros) went to Goomaral Sukhbold B. Eng. for her bachelor's thesis in mechanical engineering. In it, she developed and optimised a deep learning model for real-time defect detection in ultra-short pulse laser structuring, which is already being used successfully in research and development.
The Förderkreis der Hochschule Wismar e. V. (Friends of Wismar University Association) would like to thank its long-standing supporters – the Sparkasse Mecklenburg-Nordwest Foundation, the Hanseatic City of Wismar and the Mittwochsrunde zu Wismar (Wismar Wednesday Round Table).
Applications for the next Innovation Award can be submitted until 1 October 2026.
