The rector of the Institut Teknologi Sepuluh Nopember (ITS), Prof. Dr. (HC). Ir. Bambang Pramujati, and our Vice-Rector for Education, Prof. Dr. rer. nat. Marianne Schmolke, signed the Memorandum of Agreement (MoA) in the presence of the German ambassador to Indonesia, Ralf Beste.

The signing of this agreement marks the start of what is now the third joint double degree programme between the Department of Maritime Studies, Plant Engineering, and Logistics (SAL) at Hochschule Wismar – University of Applied Sciences (UAS) and ITS in Surabaya. It will start in September 2026 and is a sign of the very successful cooperation between the two universities, which has been going on for more than 15 years.

During the meeting, the two partners held very promising, intensive discussions about possible future cooperation beyond the SAL Department, including other areas of all three faculties at Wismar UAS. Other highlights of the visit to Surabaya included a guest lecture by Professor Schmolke on the topic: “Education in Engineering and Design in Germany – Our most important Resource - Theoretical and Practical insights” and a visit to “JIIPE”.  The five letters JIIPE stand for Java Integrated Industrial and Ports Estate, a pilot project for industrial development in Indonesia. This is the first integrated economic zone in Indonesia, consisting of industrial areas, multifunctional public ports, and residential cities with a total area of 3,000 hectares.

The visit was rounded off with a joint breaking of the fast (Buka Puasa).

All those involved are looking forward to a shared future with new challenges and great opportunities for both universities.
