The Warnemünde research team from the Institute for Innovative Ship Simulation and Maritime Systems (ISSIMS) presented the paper at the 25th Conference of the International Association of Maritime Universities (IAMU) recently held in Chennai, India. The title of the paper was ‘Integration of Fast Time Simulation Technology and Dynamic Track Prediction into the Training of Future Navigators’.

The Warnemünde contribution, ‘Fast Time Simulation and Dynamic Manoeuvring Prediction – towards Integration of Disruptive Technology for Training of Navigators of the Future’, by the six-member team of authors, prevailed against competition from 84 contributions from around the world, which had previously been selected in a peer review from 124 submitted presentation proposals.

On behalf of the contribution, which was jointly developed by professors and research assistants from the SAL department, Prof. em. Knud Benedict presented the paper to the international audience and accepted the award certificate on the last day of the conference

The IAMU conference is held annually in conjunction with the general assembly of all member universities and colleges. The motto of this year's conference was ‘Disruptive Technologies and Innovations towards Sustainable Maritime Practices’. It addressed the challenges facing maritime training institutions in terms of further digitalisation and automation, the increasing use of artificial intelligence and the transition to environmentally friendly fuels and sustainable and efficient propulsion systems.
