Democracy & Diversity
An initiative at Wimar University of Applied Sciences
Wismar University of Applied Sciences is a place of free science, a place of education and a place of community. We live democracy and diversity every day: critical discourse, diverse perspectives, different opinions and mutual respect are the foundations for these values. Through peaceful and constructive interaction without discrimination, we create an optimal learning, working and research environment. Another key feature of the democratic structure of universities is that all important decisions are made by elected representatives in the Senate and the faculty councils. Our students are also an integral part of university politics through their student councils, StuPa and AStA.
Accordingly, the Democracy & Diversity Initiative is a group of students, teachers, and staff from different departments and faculties. We promote our democratic structures, work towards a non-discriminatory, international campus, and build democratic networks inside and outside the university.
We regularly organise the Demokratiewerkstatt, where we raise awareness of various topics, empower university members in matters of democracy, and network with other stakeholders.
