Internationalization of South Baltic Maritime Economy

Source: Wismar University of Applied Sciences

The project will support the maritime economy across the Southern Baltic region through the network of businesses and stakeholders under a common "INTERMARE" brand.

The maritime economy is one of the most prospective development sectors in the Southern Baltic Sea Region, but despite the strong support of the regional authorities of the regions for the intensive development of the maritime economy, there is still an overall lack of international instruments to support the marketing activities of SMEs on an international level. The INTERMARE project will support the maritime economy throughout the Southern Baltic region through the network of businesses and stakeholders under a common INTERMARE brand that will be easily recognizable in the region as well as in other European and global markets.

The project aims to create a network of businesses and stakeholders (clusters, employers' organizations, regional and local authorities, etc.) for greater recognition of SMEs from the Southern Baltic region in international markets, as well as better cooperation in US supply chains in the region. The INTERMARE project will create and implement a set of measures for the integration of stakeholders in the Southern Baltic Sea Region. This will enable better cooperation and the creation of joint projects and initiatives, and in this way, maritime SMEs from the region will be able to compete in the markets.

Maritime businesses from the region benefit from the international events organized within the INTERMARE joint regional network, such as maritime fairs, cross-border network development meetings, and promotional activities in Europe. To this end, the following results will be achieved:

  • Marketing strategy for the maritime economy in the South Baltic region;
  • Tools to support and facilitate international cooperation and promotion of blue economy enterprises in the South Baltic region;
  • Tools to promote the blue economy through actions and events;
  • INTERMARE 2020 Trade Fair for Blue Economy Companies

There will be six partners from Poland, Lithuania and Germany, but the project is additionally open to SMEs from Denmark and Sweden.
