Computer-aided Realization of Intelligent Manufacturing

The CoRiFe research project aims to answer the work organization and technical questions that arise when the concepts and ideas of Industry 4.0 are transferred to manual production

The object and goal of CoRiFe is to transfer the concepts of Industry 4.0, which are primarily shaped by automation and information technology, to manual production and assembly. There, interfaces between people and computers predominate. Intelligence and flexibility in the sense of Industry 4.0, therefore, require real-time information acquisition, decision-making and communication between workers and planning systems. Possible solutions include the use of "wearable computing" for the immediate acquisition of information and direct provision of current data in production. However, in order to feed these devices, intelligent planning systems are also needed that react immediately to changes on the basis of intelligent network plans and communicate the optimal alternative solution in real-time.

This challenge is being taken up by the joint research project CoRiFe of the universities of Wismar and Bremen: By using modern end devices such as smart glasses, the workers are to be enabled to immediately view the most up-to-date planning data and communicate faults directly to the planning system. The backbone of the whole system is an intelligent network plan that not only knows the target process, but also suggests alternative solutions and procedures and weighs up their advantages and disadvantages. This involves numerous organizational, IT and technical issues, the solutions to which are being transferred into a computer-supported overall concept.

Industrial partners in the project are Airbus DS GmbH and Ubimax GmbH in Bremen. The results of CoRiFe flow in scientific publications and in teaching, serve the applicants as a basis for future projects and are directly used, expanded and further developed in practice by the industrial partners. The topic is of relevance across industries, so the knowledge gained is also useful in companies other than those involved.
