Exhibition: The momentum of the 60s

The exhibition is dedicated to Müther's beginnings in the field of shell construction - from his first realised project at the end of his studies to prominent social buildings such as the "Teepott" in Rostock-Warnemünde and the "Ahornblatt" in Berlin. Models, drawings, photographs and other contemporary documents, mainly from Ulrich Müther's estate, which is kept at the Hochschule Wismar, provide a vivid picture of this architecture.

The civil engineer Ulrich Müther (1934-2007) is one of the formative personalities of East German post-war architecture. In the sixties, he specialised in the construction and execution of concrete shells like no one else in the GDR. In doing so, he followed a trend of the time: the elegant shell constructions built by engineers and architects such as Pier Luigi Nervi in Italy, Eero Saarinen in the USA, Félix Candela in Mexico or Heinz Isler in Switzerland were noticed worldwide. Especially in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, but also in other regions of the GDR and abroad, Müther realised more than 70 striking solitary buildings, mostly in cooperation with architects.
