Democracy Day is intended as an interactive participatory format for school pupils and aims to provide young people with spaces where they can actively contribute their own perspectives, questions and experiences.
At its heart is the idea of treating democracy not merely as a subject to be taught, but as something that can be experienced – something that directly affects young people and that they themselves can help shape.
Democracy Day includes, amongst other things:
- a moderated, interactive panel discussion featuring voices from academia, youth culture and civil society,
- creative and thematic workshops on social issues, democracy in everyday life, the media, living together, diversity and participation,
- cross-school participation and exchange activities between pupils,
- as well as a joint cultural closing event.
Following a successful inaugural Democracy Day in Cologne attended by around 200 pupils, the event is now coming to Wismar!
Democracy Day is a joint event organised by the GermanDream initiative, the University of Bonn, the Federal Pupils’ Conference and Hochschule Wismar University of Applied Sciences Technology, Business and Design, supported by the university’s internal ‘Democracy & Diversity’ initiative.
The event will be held in German.
