International Research in Dialogue: The team of researchers from Nancy, Besançon, Erfurt and Wismar, funded by the DFG and the French ANR, is working together to understand how black-pigmented, melanin-containing soil fungi can support crop plants in colonising soils, especially those that are heavily contaminated with pollutants or heavy metals.

Twelve participants, including eight scientists from France, presented their current results and agreed on the next project steps. This year’s host, Prof. Falk Hillmann (Hochschule Wismar), welcomed the project coordinator Prof. Damien Blaudez (Université de Lorraine, Nancy) and the other subproject leaders, Prof. Michel Chalot (Université Marie-et-Louis-Pasteur, Besançon) and Dr. Stefan Ehrentraut (UAS Erfurt), to the Island of Poel and Wismar

The event was also broadcast in a hybrid format, enabling additional colleagues to join online. The number of participants from France also highlighted the particular appeal of the UNESCO World Heritage City of Wismar for international research teams.
