Development of a Software-Based Diagnostic Tool for Large Combustion Engines

Source: Wismar University of Applied Sciences

Under the keyword Maritim 4.0, the research project is pursuing the goal of developing a software-based fault diagnosis tool for large combustion engines.

The envisaged system should be based as far as possible on analytical methods and thus make the human-heuristic part of the diagnosis of errors superfluous. Various mathematical and physical approaches can be considered for this. In the context of Maritime 4.0 - the digitalisation of ships and their communication with the shore, combined with the future prospect of unmanned shipping - the product to be developed for fault detection and the product based on it for damage prediction represent an indispensable component of the safety chain of modern ship operation.
