How do i log on to the terminalserver?

Instructions for Windows

Under Windows 7, select All Programs -> Accessories -> Remote Desktop Connection from the Start menu.

In Windows 8, 8.1, and 10, press the Windows + Q key, and then type Remote Desktop Connection in the search box.

If necessary, the RDP client must be configured before logging on to the terminal server. By configuring the RDP client, files can be exchanged between the local computer and terminal server, the local printer can be used to print forwarded documents and the local audio system can be used to play multimedia content.

Instructions for Linux

We recommend using the freerdp client. This can handle the increased security requirements of MS Windows Terminal Server 2012.

  • Install the freerdp-x11 package
  • To log in graphically, install the remmina remmina-plugin-rdp

Possibly only an older freerdp-x11 version is available via standard package sources of your distribution. For example, to get the latest (beta) version under Ubuntu, integrate the package sources of the development team and install the necessary packages from there:

  • sudo apt-add-repository ppa:freerdp-team/freerdp
  • sudo apt-get update
  • sudo apt-get install freerdp-x11 remmina remmina-plugin-rdp

(Information on the website of freeRDP)

When remmina has started, create a new connection according to the following pattern:

Use the "Advanced" and "SSH" tabs to set further options (printer sharing...).

Of course you can also use the command line without remmina:

xfreerdp -v:taurus.wi.hs-wismar.de -u:loginname@HSW

You may need to store the appropriate certificates in your personal $HOME/.freerdp/certs or link this to the system-wide certificate store. If all this does not work, you can still try to establish the connection without using certificates:

xfreerdp -v:taurus.wi.hs-wismar.de -u:loginname@HSW --ignore-certificate

The help page --help provides information about the exact syntax of the installed xfreerdp version (also for window size, etc.). So:RTFM!
