Tutor/Professor

Dallas Reese

Topic

The major emerging issues that will determine the future nature of commercial life.

Contents

The exact content will vary from semester to semester, as issues emerge. However, the focus is on spotting and describing the nature and consequences of developing events that are capable of causing substantial disruption to the stability of business environments in the middle and long term unless these are suitably strategically accommodated. Some enduring dilemmas include various factors causing disruptions to the labour market, energy supply, and access to raw materials. New communication and market structures and the consequences of the financial crisis are also enduring theme areas.

Knowledge Management

Contents

Central part of the lecture is the representation of knowledge. Various types of knowledge representations were discussed.

Knowledge Networks and Topic Maps are used to represent individual as well as organisational knowledge.

Aim

Students see the importance of knowledge management for an organisation and know the possibilities of information technology to support knowledge management.

Students learn to deal with knowledge as an extension of information. You are able to extract knowledge from the real world and can translate it into a formal representation a computer can deal with.

You can choose appropriate knowledge representation and processing for a certain problem.

The advantage of a semantic search (knowledge based) against a pure syntactic one (google) will become evident.
